Does the STAR test cover more than what we learned?

Supposedly, the STAR test covers all of a particular year’s curriculum. If this were true, then how would students be able to pass? Wouldn’t it only make sense if the STAR test covered part of the curriculum? As a student, I do not recall having a question on the STAR test that covered material we did not learn yet. Is i true that the STAR test only covers part of the overall curriculum, as in the material the state assumes we already know?
