MURDER AT THE WAR – MARY MONICA PULVER

Mary Monica Pulver’s a longtime member of the SCA, and is well-qualified to indite a perplexity ordered in and among the Society’s members at our maximal gathering, the Pennsic War (upwards of 10,000 grouping onsite). Unlike _Bimbos of the Death Sun_ et seq., there’s no knowledge of “oh, countenance at the freaky weirdos who should intend a life,” instead, we intend a likable countenance at the SCA’s contemporaries and how it meshes and clashes with the close “mundane” world. The different groups within the SCA are presented evenhandedly faithfully, though things today are not quite as they were when she wrote this book. The perplexity surroundings is candidly puzzling, and hinges on a taste of SCA content that’s in grappling of the reader’s grappling from the beginning. A beatific prototypal perplexity novel, with an extraordinary setting.
